A chaotic scene inside and outside a Portland courthouse today as the father of missing Waterville toddler Ayla Reynolds faced a judge. Justin DiPietro was charged with assault and violating conditions of release. The charges are unrelated to the December 2011 disappearance of his daughter. Police believe Ayla is dead but no one’s been charged, no suspect has been named in the case. Ayla’s mother Trista Reynolds was also in the courtroom with her family. Her father, Ron Reynolds lunged at Phoebe DiPietro, Justin’s mother. Court officials then threw family members out of the building. Justin DiPietro eventually pleaded guilty to violating conditions of release and prosecutors dismissed the assault charge. He was sentenced to four days in jail and fined $150. He got credit for time he’s already served, so he’s free tonight.
