A high speed chase ended with an accident Tuesday afternoon.

It all started around 3:00 pm when, police say, Jason Brown, 29, stole a Dodge pick-up from Charlie’s dealership in Waterville.

It was reported to local police that Brown was suicidal, had harmed himself, and was a risk to other’s safety.

State Police say, after a 40 mile chase, Brown crashed his car into a tree along the interstate in Etna.

State Police tell us he drove through two traffic stops and around a pair of spike mats before a third popped his tires.

Authorities tell us they tried to negotiate with Brown as he was driving.

Brown was taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

State police expect he will face charges related to operating under the influence, eluding an officer, passing three road blocks, and stealing a truck.
