Local leaders in Veazie are trying to determine how to use unoccupied space along the Penobscot River.
The town council may purchase and repurpose the former Veazie dam powerhouse.
The century-old structure is owned by the non-profit group Penobscot River Restoration Trust.
They’re behind the dam removal project that will open up the river to sea run fish for the first time for in over a century.
The owners are looking for a buyer whose plans for the property align with their mission to preserve the nearby ecosystem.
On Monday night, town councilors toured the building and held a public forum to discuss the issue.
