Former Chelsea Selectwoman Back on Stand For Her Extortion Trial

55-year-old Carole Swan was back on the stand in her own defense on Monday.

She’s accused of taking $20,000 in kickbacks from a road contractor while she was a Chelsea Selectwoman.

Swan’s attorney Leonard Sharon says Swan was actually trying to build a case against the contractor.

She told the jury on Monday she was trying to quote, “save the town money and to stop someone from stealing from the town.”

She told the jury she keeps $10,000 she took from the contractor as part of her investigation locked in her car.

The Government claims swan was a corrupt elected public official who confessed on video.

In July, Swan was convicted of tax fraud and lying to get workers comp.
