Get ready to see Bangor decked out in pink! The Susan G. Komen Race For the Cure is this Sunday, September 15th in Bangor. The annual run raises money for breast cancer awareness, research and prevention. Thousands come out every year for the race on the Bangor waterfront. “Well the race is always an inspirational event. We love having all of the participants out here we get nearly 5,000 people here at the water front we have a survivors ceremony where people can honor the survivors that are here and its just amazing to see the sea of pink, all the survivors who have beat the disease,” said Sally Bilancia, Executive Director for Komen Maine. Here’s how you can register:• Online registration is open at www.komenmaine.org through Friday at 4pm. The system allows participants to customize their own fundraising webpages where they can upload photos, tell their stories and illustration fundraising goals. They can email friends and family directly from the site for a fun and easy way to help the cause. It’s not too late to fundraise, as the Race collects donations for four additional weeks. Participants who raise $250 or more will receive their choice of name brand merchandise as our thank you for collecting pledges. The more you raise, the better the prize… from tote bags to televisions.• Race Store at the Broadway Shopping Center : Whether you want to register in person or just pick up your Race t-shirt in advance, stop by our Race store located at the Broadway Shopping Center, between H&R Block and Sherwin Williams. Store hours will be Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday, from 9-2 p.m.• Race Day: Can’t sign up before? Register at the Bangor Waterfront on Race morning before 9:30am.
