Cluster Balloonist Seeks to Fly Across Atlantic from Caribou 

The contraption Jonathan Trappe is using to cross the Atlantic Ocean looks like something from the movie “Up.”Early Thursday morning, the cluster balloonist lifted off from Caribou, using hundreds of helium-filled balloons.The 39-tear-old North Carolina native is a certified pilot. Instead of using a traditional aircraft, 150 volunteers helped him fill more than 300 helium balloons.He expects the cluster system will bring him anywhere between Iceland and Morocco and could take up to 5 days. Trappe has been planning Thursday’s launch for two years and hopes to be the first person to do it using a cluster balloon system.
