Jury Seated in Extortion Case for Former Chelsea Selectwoman 

A federal jury is now in place for the extortion trial of former Chelsea selectwoman Carole Swan.The trial begins next Monday in Bangor.Swan is accused of taking $20,000 from a road contractor while she was in office. She claims she was actually investigating the contractor for allegedly defrauding the town. In July, Swan was convicted of tax fraud and lying to obtain workers compensation benefits. Her lawyer argued she was abused by her estranged husband, Marshall Swan, and only did what she was told. Carole Swan faces up to 20 years in prison, if convicted of extortion.
