A bicycle ride this weekend will help support local trails and wildlife areas. The Pedal the Penobscot is a fundraiser for the Bangor Land Trust on Sunday, September 8th.The money raised goes toward management costs associated with the trust. Organizers say it’s also a good way to celebrate bicycling and the city’s efforts to make the streets more friendly to riders. Cyclists can choose from five routes, covering 14 to 100 miles.Organizers emphasize, too, that this is ride, not a race, and everyone’s welcome to take part. Bangor Land Trust President Lucy Quimby says, “It’s not about speed, it’s about getting out and enjoying yourself with your friends. A lot of people who do this, it’s a personal best for them. They take a risk when they ride 28 miles, cause they’ve never done it before.”The rides all start at the Bangor Waterfront at different times Sunday morning, depending on the length of the ride. They end at the Sea Dog Restaurant for a celebration that begins at 11:30 a.m.If you register by Tuesday, September 3rd, it’s $45 for individuals, $35 as a team member and $20 for students. Starting Wednesday, September 4th, it’s $50 for individuals and team members. You can register at www.bangorlandtrust.org or by calling 942-1010.
