Bangor Restaurant Serves Labor Day Lunch to ER Workers

Working in the emergency room is stressful and Labor Day is no exception.But for those at Eastern Maine Medical Center’s ER, there was a bright spot to working this holiday.As Joy Hollowell tells us, they were all treated to lunch.====Most emergency room workers are used to eating on the fly.”I only work 9’s but a lot of the nurses work 12s,” says Jon Chapman, an RN at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.And if the ER is particularly busy, getting a bite to eat can be a bit tricky.”Something pretty quick, yup,” says Chapman. “Lots of indigestion,” he adds, laughing.But on this Labor day, employees at EMMC are enjoying a well balanced and well deserved lunch, courtesy of Olive Garden restaurant.”We have lasagna, we brought our 5-cheese marinara ziti, spaghetti, we even brought some dessert, we brought some tiramisu,” says Rebecca Gilden, manager of the Olive Garden restaurant in Bangor.”It’s great, it’s nice to be able to have time to sit down to eat and have something served to us and brought to us to eat,” says Chapman.This is a Labor day tradition for Olive Garden. In the past, they’ve treated fire fighters and police officers lunch on the house.”They work hard and we wanted to show our appreciation,” says Gilden.”It makes you feel good to know that they’re able to see that we work hard,” says Chapman.+++This is the 12th year in a row Olive Garden has delivered the free lunches on Labor Day. The Bangor restaurant is one of 800 Olive Gardens nationwide that participated.
