Tidal Company Wins Two Contracts

Updated 11 months ago

A tidal power company in Maine has won a pair of federal contracts totaling nearly $5 million. U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree says the Department of Energy contracts won by Ocean Renewable Power Company will help the company to further refine its technology. One of the DOE grants for $1.9 million will help the company develop new ways to monitor tidal current and maximize efficiency. The other aims to help the company develop improved gear. Last year, the company connected to the grid in eastern Maine, providing enough electricity for about 25 homes. The pilot program calls for more units providing enough power for more than 1,000 homes. Company President Chris Sauer says the federal grants “will give us the boost we need to take it to the next level.”
