Five out of the 8 brakes that should have been working in a dump truck that crashed into a train Thursday in Hampden, were not working properly. That’s what inspectors have determined. Police say the driver of the truck, an East Millinocket man, is incredibly lucky. The truck was heading east when its driver tried to avoid a car waiting at the railroad crossing. It ended up hitting the train.Emergency officials arrived on scene to find the driver, Fredrick Lindsay of East Millinocket, pinned in the dump truck.It took more than an hour, two jaws of life, as well as several saws and hand tools to get the 63-year old out.He was taken to the hospital with numerous injuries.The road re-opened at 11:30 Thursday night.
