Corinth Woman Charged with Drunk Driving, Crashing into State Police Cruiser

Updated 11 months ago

A Corinth woman is facing charges after police say she was driving drunk and crashed into a state police car. McKenzie Kaphammer, 22, is charged with drunk driving, aggravated criminal mischief, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, passing a roadblock, leaving the scene of an accident, and operating the wrong way on a one way road. Police say Kaphammer struck a pole on Mill Street in Orono on Thursday night and drove away. She was then reportedly driving the wrong way on I-95. Police say Trooper Chris Hashey tried to pull Kaphammer over on the highway, but she wouldn’t stop. Hashey created a roadblock with his cruiser, and put down a spike mat to stop Kaphammer, but she reportedly didn’t stop and crashed into the cruiser. Hashey’s cruiser caught fire. Hashey was not in the cruiser at the time and was able to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher. Trooper Hashey was not hurt. Kaphammer was taken to a hospital and then arrested.
