Waste Treatment Plant Demolition Continues in Ellsworth
The waste water treatment plant that used to stink-up the Ellsworth Harbor is coming down to make way for a more inviting waterfront.The demolition is about halfway done and should wrap up this fall. Ellsworth officials say the area will be a green lawn connected to the current harbor park area. “Its the final piece of an eight year long project of moving the waste water treatment plant off the harbor and you know into a more appropriate place and fixing all of the issues the plant had,” said Ellsworth City Manager, Michelle Beal. “The treatment plant removal will more than double the size that we have available of green space for families, kids, dogs, all those types of things,” said Harbor Commission Head, Mark Remick.The city has increased the number of boat slips and moorings at the harbor. The Harbor Commission says t hey plan to take their time and work with the city on a new waterfront design.
