Local leaders joined affordable housing advocates in Bangor today. The city’s housing authority celebrated the opening of the new Griffin Park Community Building with a ribbon cutting ceremony.Housing officials have been planning construction since the early spring thanks to funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Congressman Michaud congratulated those behind the project and called for continued flexibility in federal funding for projects like this. “Here is another example where the federal delegation worked together even with the cutbacks in federal funding for housing, we were actually able to move to require flexibility, and that’s one thing that is so important because there are no projects that are exactly alike,” said Michaud.Officials from the housing authority hope the common space will be used by community groups and locals looking to space to gather.
