Teen Helping Others Pay for Fuel with Local Newsletter
A Massachusetts teenager is using one of his hobbies to help others this winter. Alex Emerson has vacationed with his family in Brooksville his whole life. He writes, edits and published a newsletter for his neighborhood and is donated the money from subscriptions to the Washington Hancock Area Community Agency’s Thaw fund. The fund provides fuel during the winter for families in desperate and emergency situations. Alex started the “Dog Island Point News” in the first grade, with just a few pictures. Now it’s evolved into its 8th volume and each issue is about 2000 words. “I figured it would be fun to use a more local charity such as the THAW fund, because it effects people closer to here, which is where all of my family members have grown up and it’s a really special place,” Alex said. You can read issues of the Dog Island Point News on Alex’s website, www.Dogislandpoint.com.
