Maine Mother Believed to Have Kidnapped her Children, Jailed in South Carolina

A Waterville woman, who police say kidnapped her own children and took them out of state, is behind bars in South Carolina.Waterville’s police chief tells TV5 that 34-year-old Bethmarie Retamozzo was arrested Saturday night at a rest area in South Carolina The state highway patrol spotted the mother and her three kids sleeping in their car by I-95. Police say Retamozzo was headed to Florida.Authories tell TV 5 all three children, a 7 year old girl, 6 year old boy and two year old girl are doing just fine. The kids are in the custody of South Carolina officials for now.The children’s grandmother, who has legal custody of the two older children, told police the kids were missing on Thursday evening.Retamozzo is charged as a fugitive from justice.Waterville’s police chief says he’s working with South Carolina police to have Retamozzo brought back to Maine.She will remain in jail until the FBI can take custody.
