The Hancock County District Attorney’s Office has no plans to refile charges against a member of the Passamaquoddy Tribe accused of illegally fishing for elvers. The civil charge against Christopher Neptune was dismissed by a judge earlier this month. He was accused of fishing for elvers without a license in early April. Hancock County Assistant District Attorney Bill Entwisle says Neptune’s original charge carried a potential fine of $1,000. But in late April state law changed to make the criminal fine for illegal elver fishing $2,000.Entwisle says because of the way Neptune was charged, his case couldn’t be prosecuted. Entwisle says he doesn’t plan to pursue the case, again.
