Michaud Officially Entering Race For Governor
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) – Democratic U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud is making official that he’s running for governor. His campaign says Michaud, who’d formed an exploratory committee, will make a statement Thursday afternoon at the Franco-American Heritage Center in Lewiston. Michaud has already been raising money to challenge Republican Gov. Paul LePage, who’s seeking re-election. Michaud faces a primary challenge from Steve Woods of Yarmouth.LePage was asked his reaction to the news.”I fully expected it. Frankly when he announced an exploratory committee we knew he was in. No. No surprise there,” LePage said. Also in the race is independent Eliot Cutler. Michaud is a five-term congressman. He had said when he announced his exploratory committee that Maine needs someone who can restore civility in the Maine State House, a veiled reference to the blunt-spoken LePage.
