Large Lizard Captured in Camden

Police in Camden had to use a catchpole to capture a subject on the run Tuesday. It was a large lizard that had been on the loose.Police Chief Randy Gagne says a town employee first saw it a couple weeks ago.Tuesday a homeowner on Washington Street alerted police to the lizard’s location. That person sent photos to UMaine, a biologist identified it as a South American Tegu lizard.Police used Facebook to find its owner. It’s believed the creature escaped from a crate in the owner’s back yard.Chief Gagne says the owner was happy to see the lizard was safe but no longer had the means to take care of it.So wardens took it to a wildlife care center in Vassalboro.
