Deputies: Person Shot During Group Fight in Guilford
One person was shot Monday night in Guilford. Deputies say it was part of a fight involving at least 13 people. According to a press release sent by the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office, a young man was beaten up in July, which has led to several fights in the Guilford area over the past few days. None of the fights were reported to police. Deputies say Monday night, a group of 9 adults and juveniles went to Guilford with baseball bats and knives. Deputies say they got into a fight with two males who were a part of the fight in July: those males had bats and a dog. Deputies say both groups were beating each other with bats and the dog attacked two males. One of the males reportedly had a gun and fired two shots toward the dog. The dog’s owner was struck by a bullet. Four people were taken to a hospital, including the person who was shot, and all are expected to survive. Deputies say they found more than a dozen knives and bullet casings. The fight Monday night reportedly happened at the intersection of Water Street and North Main Street in Guilford. The person who called in the shooting said the people involved ran away. Police pulled over two cars on West Main Street in Dover-Foxcroft and interviewed 13 people they say were involved in the fight. According to the press release, two vehicles were impounded and the dog was quarantined. Due to the complexity of the investigation, deputies are not yet releasing the names of any of the people involved.
