A 56-year-old Maine man charged with being drunk when he struck a family of three out on a bike ride in Biddeford, resulting in the death of the father, is scheduled to make his first court appearance. David Labonte is expected to appear Monday in Springvale District Court on charges of manslaughter and drunken driving. Labonte was arrested Friday and held over the weekend on $100,000 bail. Police say Labonte struck Jamerico Elliott, Melodie Brennan, and their 15-month old son, who was in a bike seat with his dad, on Aug. 2. Elliott died last Wednesday. Prosecutors say Labonte had a blood alcohol content of nearly twice the legal limit for driving. Labonte previously said he had an asthma-induced coughing fit and passed out.
