Man Killed, Fiancee Escapes Windham Apartment Fire
Maine fire officials say a man died in an apartment house fire in Windham but his fiancee managed to escape. Steve McCausland of the Maine Public Safety Department said firefighters discovered and removed 25-year-old Parker Blanchart from his third-floor bedroom but were unable to revive him. He said Blanchart’s fiancee, 25-year-old Annette Kowalik, suffered smoke inhalation but managed to get out. McCausland said she’s expected to survive. A passerby reported the fire at 3:30 a.m. Sunday. McCausland said the fire appears to be accidental but he said the Maine Fire Marshal’s Office has more work to do before the investigation is completed.
