The University of Maine in Orono is making a clean sweep. It’s holding a used furniture sale.Couches, desks, dressers and more are up for grabs.Larger items are around $20 to $30.UMaine is replacing the furniture, and letting the Bodwell Center for Service and Volunteerism keep the profits. The center’s raising money for its Welcome Weekend Day of Service.20,000 meals will be sent to nations in Africa and elsewhere. It’s a $5,000 project, so everything is priced to go in Orono.”We’re pricing things very inexpensive. We understand the condition that the furniture is in, but we also know that people have needs for camps, people need furniture, and really don’t have a lot of additional money for it. Doing this is a way that we can help the community by selling things very inexpensively,” said Lisa Morin, coordinator for the Bodwell Center. The sale takes place at York Commons on the UMaine campus in Orono on Square Road.It runs Friday, August 9th from 8am to 2pm and Saturday from 8am to noon.Credit and debit cards are accepted. For more info, call the Bodwell Center at 581-3091 or log on to UMaine.edu/volunteer.
