Morris Yacht Wins Safety Award
‘Safety First,’ that’s the motto for a Trenton boat builder.The Bureau of Labor Standards has presented Morris Yachts with the “SHARP” Award Tuesday. The award is given to companies that voluntarily participate in a safety audit of the workplace.Companies that earn the award don’t have to have OSHA inspections for two years. Morris Yachts has a lower on the job injury rate than the national average. Bob Harmon says when they started working toward the award: they had an injury rate well above the national average, “We started two years ago as a company that needed mandatory inspections due to a high accident rate, and now we’re a company with a real low accident rate and a team effort with everybody pitching forward to look towards safety with everything they do,” Harmon said.Morris Yachts made 65 Maine companies honored with the award.
