Tools for School

Renae Muscatell of Penquis joined Carolyn Callahan on TV5 News at 5 to talk about the “Tools for School Program.”· According to the National Retail Federation, last year, families with school-age children spent an average of $450.76 on back-to-school shopping and on average about $90.49 on school supplies alone! Per child!· For the last 10 years, Penquis has helped ease some of the financial burden by assisting with school supplies and backpacks.· Last year with generosity from individuals, civic organizations, and local business, along with the help of civic organizations, Blueberry Broadcasting and participating Dunkin Donuts we served over 1,200 children in our service area.· This year our numbers are the same! And our focus is BACKPACK! It is one of the most expensive items for parents to purchase! At this time we only have about 200 backpacks. So we are in need of 1,000 more by August 19th! Don’t forget about the high school students, they carry the most! Tote bags are great too!· Donate online, cash in Dunkin Donut boxes or drop off a backpack at Penquis or at the live radio broadcast with the BEAR, this Wednesday, at the Dunkin Donuts on Union between 11 AM – 1 PM
