Bangor Committee Votes for Fund to Save Bus Route
After listening to public comments on a proposal to shut down a Bangor bus route, city officials are revisiting the issue. During Monday’s Government Operations Committee meeting, councilors voted in favor of creating a fund to keep the community connector bus service running along Odlin Road. If enacted by the city council, local business and residents could be solicited for contributions. The route is currently scheduled to stop running on September 1st.Joe Baldacci, who even offered to contribute his city council salary, says the city needs to be creative when it comes to stretching dollars and maintaining services. “That if we can extend it for a couple months, it allows us the opportunity to try to talk to the businesses, try to develop a better, longer term alternative, instead of just saying, you know, September 1st, that is it.”The issue will be brought to a full council on August 12th. The cost of keeping busses running on Odlin through the end of the fiscal year is $20,000 over 10 months.
