Governor declares August to be Maine Lobster Month

Updated 9 months ago

Gov. Paul LePage is encouraging residents to eat lobster and to visit the Maine Lobster Festival this weekend. LePage declared August to be “Maine Lobster Month” and encouraged residents to turn out for the festival in Rockland. He’s also sending lobsters to all 49 other governors to help encourage people to eat more lobster. He said Maine fishermen “are the epitome of hard work” and that lobster is a mainstay of the economy. The five-day festival, which kicked off Wednesday, continues Saturday before wrapping up Sunday. The festival each year draws about 100,000 visitors who eat more than 20,000 pounds of lobster.
