Man From Mexico Pleads Guilty to Role in Major Pot Operation Down East
A man from Mexico admitted to taking part in a major pot growing operation in Washington County. 53-year-old Moises Soto pleaded guilty in federal court in Bangor Tuesday to a drug conspiracy charge and to harboring illegal aliens. Drug agents say in September of 2009, they found nearly 3,000 pot plants in Township 37, worth about $9 million. Four people from Maine are charged in the case, too.They’re accused of running the operation with the help of illegal aliens.Haynes Timber Company is also charged with managing and controlling property used to manufacture marijuana. All of them have pleaded not guilty. A sentencing date for Soto has not been set yet.
