One big attraction at the Bangor State Fair year after year is the agriculture section.Fairgoers can enjoy looking at and learning about the farm animals.Almost 100 4-H Club members of Maine are participating in this year’s fair. Many have entered into a variety of animal contests and competitions.”It’s just such a great place to be with the kids because you see the hard work that they’ve put in all year long raising these animals,” said Brenda Mowdy, 4-H Aid to Penobscot and Piscataquis Counties. “I like it so much because cows are my favorite animal for one thing. And, I like spending time with my family this is kind of how we all come together and just spend time together because everyone is working so everyone takes time off for show day to come help. It’s kind of just a whole family involvement,” said Bryce Farnham, from Bucksport, who’s been a 4-H Club member for 6 years. Not only are 4-H Club members excited to participate in the 2013 fair, but it’s also a big birthday year for the organization. The 4-H Club of Maine is celebrating it’s 100th birthday. It started out as a potato club in Portland one-hundred years ago.Groups around the state will celebrate with a variety of events throughout the year and even honor alumni.Like a ninety-five year old Penobscot County man who participated in a 4-H photo club decades ago.
