A former Deer Isle bus driver will spend six years behind bars for molesting a young girl.On Wednesday, a jury found Larry Bunt, 53, guilty on five counts of Gross Sexual Assault and three counts of Unlawful Sexual Contact in an Ellsworth court room. After hearing from the victim, the victim’s family, and Bunt’s girlfriend of 10 years, the judge sentenced Bunt to six years in prison, 10 years probation, 14 years to the Department of Corrections and he must register as a sex offender for life. During the case, the victim testified the crimes took place between 2000 and 2004. The jury based their decision off a recorded phone call between Bunt and the victim.During the conversation, Bunt said what he did was wrong.Assistant District Attorney Mary Kellett said, “The fact that It was a guilty verdict on all counts is the important fact and that is based on the compelling evidence in this case by the testimony of the victim, but also of the defendants statements which were recorded and very detailed.”Bunt’s attorney, Jeff Toothaker said he’s satisfied with the sentence, saying it is similar to what Bunt would have received if he pled guilty.
