Lewiston Teen Arson Suspect to get Treatment

Updated 1 year ago

A judge has ordered that a 13-year-old boy charged with arson be transferred from a juvenile detention facility to a residential treatment center while he awaits trial for a fire that destroyed four apartment buildings in Lewiston. The boy has been held at Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland since his arrest for the May 4 blaze, one of three major fires in downtown Lewiston in just over a week that destroyed nine buildings and left nearly 200 people homeless. On Wednesday, Lewiston District Court Judge Rick Lawrence agreed that a treatment facility would be a better place for him to be held, based on the results of a psychological evaluation. Another 13-year-old boy and two men face charges in the other fires.
