Maine GOP elects Bennett as Leader
Maine’s Republican Party has picked former state Senate President Rick Bennett as its new chairman. The Republican State Committee met Saturday in Augusta to choose the new GOP state chair. The election follows the resignation of former Chairman Richard Cebra, who stepped down earlier this month after six months on the job. The party said Cebra left for personal reasons. Vice Chairwoman Beth O’Connor also resigned. On Saturday the committee elected former state Rep. Susan Morissette as the new vice chair. Thirty-nine committee members announced their support for Bennett for chairman in an email obtained by The Associated Press on Friday. The libertarian-leaning Republican Liberty Caucus said Friday that also was unanimously backing Bennett for chair.
