Community leaders are collaborating to bring an AmeriCorps branch to Bangor.A federal grant will help fund the program, run through Eastern Maine Community College. 12 full time and 20 part time volunteers will be working alongside local organizations. They’re trying to enhance the lives of people in Bangor by taking on veteran’s issues, food security, financial literacy, and assisting the elderly. The leaders behind the initiative say it’s all part of being a community college. “By definition we are interested in community issues and community affairs. Our mission is to provide training and support the economic development of the community,” said Dr. Pamela Proulx – Curry, Academic Dean at EMCC. EMCC is offering a living allowance and also education assistance for some volunteers. To find out more information on how to get involved, email the project manager Erin Vinson at email@example.com.
