Voters in Brewer will decide whether or not to approve the school department’s $2.3 million budget Monday night. They’re asking tax payers for $315,000 more than last year. The current budget eliminates one teaching position. At one point, the school board was preparing for a worst-case-scenario budget where up to 34 people could be out of a job.Polls opened at 7 am at Brewer auditorium. They’re open until 8 pm. So far, turnout is less than expected. “Turnout has been fairly light and I don’t expect it to pick up too much. Not your average election for this time of year,” said Brewer City Clerk Pamela Ryan. As mid afternoon, fewer than 200 people had cast their ballots.
