Bar Harbor cruise ships get a lot of attention this time of year. But it’s two unmanned sail boats that folks on MDI are watching for, too. The boats were released off the Bahamas on June 3rd. One’s from the Dexter Boy Scouts and the other’s from the Bartlett Woods Retirement Center in Rockland. It’s part of a project called Educational Passages. The boats are guided by ocean winds and currents and were expected to head to Europe but the weather patterns changed. Now it looks like they’ll come ashore off the coast of Mount Desert Island within a couple of days. You can check the progress of the boats, which are being tracked by GPS. Click in this link:www.nefsc.noaa.gov/drifter/drift_ep_2013_1.htmlIf you find one of the boats, contact Educational Passages.
