Skowhegan Pizza Place Specializes in Whoopie Pies
Many tourist will be traveling to our state this holiday weekend looking for a Maine made treat and a pizza place in Showhegan might be the place to go.Al’s Pizza taking the People’s Choice award at last month’s Whoopie Pie Festival in Dover Foxcroft. The brother and sister duo and co-owners of the shop, Chad Partridge and Marsha Toth said they brought about 1,800 samples to the festival. Their best seller? Maine blueberry with cream cheese filling. “Actually that’s the first that we ran out of at the festival this year. We actually made twice as many, we went with about 300 blueberry whoopie pies and they were gone in in about 2 1/2 hours. So they are a huge hit and were happy to hear that. Well keep making them until people stop buying them,” said Toth.This isn’t the first time the pizza place has won the prize.They were also voted the people’s choice in 2010 and best traditional whoopie pie in 2011. However, it is the first time the brother and sister can say they won. They inherited the restaurant from their parents last year.
