Maine forest rangers, ranger pilots, and support staff paused Wednesday morning out of respect for fallen colleagues. At 9:30am, they observed a moment of silence in memory of the 19 elite firefighters who died fighting a wildfire in Arizona. ” This is a tragedy which is very, very real and very, very sudden and certainly very, very sad. So for us to take part in it we think is very appropriate,” said Jeff Currier, a regional forest ranger with the Maine Forest Service. Currier said it was an honor to take part in this event which was observed by firefighters across the nation.
