Removal of Veazie Dam Set to Start This Month 

Removal of the Veazie Dam is set to start later this month. On July 22nd, crews will begin breaching the dam. That’s one of the final steps before the Penobscot River becomes free flowing. Sargent Corp. has been hired to remove the dam, which spans the river between Veazie and Eddington.The removal of the century-old dam is aimed at restoring native sea-run fish, including endangered Atlantic salmon.Once the dam is removed, and another dam is bypassed, 1,000 miles of upstream habitat will be opened to sea-run fish.
