Bangor AAA Gives Holiday Travel Forecast

Many Americans will be hitting the road the next couple of days.AAA predicts nearly 40 million people will be traveling this long holiday weekend. They say that’s about a 1% decrease from last year.”The primary reason we predict the decline is not because of the economy, it happens to be that the weekend’s a little bit shorter. Last year, Fourth of July was on a Wednesday, and this year, it’s on a Thursday, so that decreases most people’s travel by a day,” said the Bangor AAA manager, Cindy Hastey.Gas is about 16 cents a gallon higher than last year, but that doesn’t appear to be keeping folks off the roads.AAA has some tips for safe travel:-Leave early and stay organized.-Plan your route in advance.-Stay focused behind the wheel.-No texting and calling while driving.
