The owner of the Bangor Daily News is closing the newspaper’s printing plant in Hampden. More than two dozen people will lose their jobs. The chief operating officer of the Bangor Publishing Company says the presses will stop by September. The printing will be outsourced to other companies, with most of the work going to Sun Media Group. Sun Media owns the Sun Journal in Lewiston and several weeklies. We’re told a cutback in the BDN’s newspaper readers and aging equipment are behind the decision. The 27 full-time workers will be given a severance package and job retraining assistance.
