“Bottles for Books” Success Celebrated

A “Bottles for Books” campaign was celebrated with a cookout last night. The creative fundraising effort began in 2002 as a way to help buy books for the Stockton Spring Community Library. Volunteers began collecting recyclables and redeeming them for a small return. 1.4 million cans later, they’ve raised $70,000 for the library. Library officials recognized a pair of locals as their “volunteers of the year”.Buffy Parker and Spiros Polemis were honored for their efforts in collecting cans and bottles.
