Lawmakers Override Governor’s Budget Veto

Updated 1 year ago

Lawmakers in both the Maine House and Senate have voted to override Governor LePage’s budget veto. LePage vetoed the budget on Monday saying he used his veto power because the budget would raise taxes and cut education funding. He had called on lawmakers to pass a 60-day spending plan to keep the government operating while they work out a new budget. If lawmakers did not override the veto, there was a potential for a state government shutdown. We are waiting for response from Governor LePage.
