The Beech Hill Farm stand is open in open Mount Desert Island. The College of the Atlantic’s local, organic farm began their season on Friday. They’re encouraging low income food shoppers to take advantage of their discount programs. They accept food pantry vouchers as well as EBT. Thanks to fundraising efforts, this year the farm has introduced a “double your dollar” program for EBC and WIC customers spending more than 20 dollars. It’s their hope that they can send those people home with twice as much produce. To meet that goal, the farm could use volunteers willing to get their hands dirty with weeding, seeding, and harvesting. If you’d like to volunteer your time, you can e-mail the staff at beechhillfarm@coa.edu.
