Portland’s Public Art Committee Nixes Benches After Price Hike

Updated 1 year ago

It turns out $42,500 for two benches was too much. Portland’s Public Art Committee says it will start over after a project to build “sit-able sculptures” in the city ended up with a choice that proved too costly. The contract by Skye Design Studio called for the company to deliver three specially designed wood and steel benches, each about 15 feet long, for the $42,500. But trouble started after the company that was supposed to fabricate the benches for Skye Design was bought out and the price of the benches went up. Skye Design then offered to supply two benches for the same price. The Portland Press Herald reports, the committee decided to reject the offer last week. It will meet next month to decide what to do next.
