State Senate Passes Bill Promoting Background Checks

Supporters of a measure that would penalize people who sell guns to prohibited customers were surprised to see that bill pass Wednesday. The legislation imposes a 500 dollar fine on sellers why bypass background checks on customers who are later found to be prohibited. It doesn’t actually require background checks in private sales, but is designed to encourage them.The bill failed twice before. It passed in an 18 to 17 vote Wednesday.
