No Charges in Starks Shooting

STARKS, Maine (AP) – A Maine grand jury has declined to bring charges in the case of a Starks man who was shot on his own property following a confrontation with a group of hunters. Kerry Hebert was shot in the stomach on Oct. 31 by a man who was among a group of hunters at the end of a dirt road leading to the Hebert’s home. The shooting followed a confrontation between the hunters and Starks, who said they were too close to the home he shares with his wife and two children. Hebert was unarmed. Hebert’s attorney tells the Morning Sentinel ( ) that he’s “very surprised” by the grand jury’s decision. District Attorney Maeghan Maloney says there was not enough evidence to proceed with criminal charges in the case. ___ Information from: Morning Sentinel, 2013 The Associated Press.
