Senate Supports Direct Funding of Charter Schools

On Monday, the Maine Senate voted in favor of a bill that, democrats say, protects public school funding. In a 21 – 14 vote, the senate passed a measure requiring direct funding of charter schools.Funding for charter schools would come from the state’s General Purpose Education fund.As it stands now, charter schools receive public tax dollars from their students’ sending districts.
