Saturday is Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Because of that, state officials are asking for help when it comes to protecting senior citizens. The Department of Professional and Financial Regulators is encouraging seniors and their caregivers to take advantage of state resources to prevent abuse and report suspected cases. The Maine Council on Elder Abuse and Prevention says the situations vary from physical, sexual, verbal, and financial abuse. They say this often un-reported problem costs seniors $2.9 billion a year.
