Bicyclist Killed at Beginning of Trek Across Maine Ride 

The start of the three-day, 180-mile Trek Across Maine has been marred by a fatal crash.State police are investigating the death of a cyclist in the town of Hanover, just a few miles from the starting point Friday morning. Spokesman Steve McCausland says the cyclist was killed when he was struck by a tractor-trailer on Main Street.The victim was identified by police as 23-year-old David LeClair of Watertown, Mass.A tractor-trailer driver was being questioned by state police.More than 2,000 bicyclists left Sunday River ski resort on Friday to start the three-day event that ends Sunday in Belfast.Organizers decided to continue the ride, which is a fundraiser for the American Lung Association. Last year’s event raised $1.8 million.
