Animals Cruelty Bill Passes Senate

State legislators took a step towards wiping out animal cruelty on Friday.In a 19 – 15 party line vote, the senate passed a bill that prevents abusers from owning animals, post conviction.The measure would make it a criminal offense for a person convicted of cruelty to animals to own or possess an animal for a certain period of time after their conviction, depending on the incident.A violation could mean jail time of almost a year.
